AboutStarfire Training Systems, Inc was founded by Tom Hennessy & Leigh Hollins in 1993. Both were firefighters in Manatee County, Florida since the late 1970s. The company came about to provide safety training to local industry and grew into a successful company that branched out and also taught emergency service personnel firefighting and technical rescue classes. Their specialty was and still is vehicle extrication training.....not your everyday junkyard class, but advanced techniques for extrication at the scene of car, light truck and SUV incidents as well as heavy rescue tactics required of school bus, heavy truck and semi tractor trailer crashes. All classes are custom designed to meet the client's specific needs. These classes are guaranteed to enhance the knowledge of student and allow them to operate more efficiently and smarter with the ultimate goal to reduce patient suffering, saving lives and reducing property damage. Owner/Director Leigh T. Hollins Bio
Battalion Chief Leigh T. Hollins began his career in 1976 at Nottingham Fire Company in Hamilton Square, NJ before relocating to Manatee County, FL in 1977. In 2013, he retired as Battalion Chief from Cedar Hammock (FL) Fire Rescue & is the owner of Starfire Training Systems, Inc. Hollins is the author of numerous fire-related articles, teaches nationally & produced Fire Engineering's School Bus Extrication DVD as well as many “Training Minute”, “Roll Call Tip” & “Training Tip” videos. Hollins has served on FDIC’s Executive Advisory Board since 1996, has been a Fire Engineering magazine Editorial Advisor/Contributing Editor since 1992 & an FDIC H.O.T. Lead Extrication Instructor since 1997. Chief Hollins maintains Florida certifications as Firefighter, EMT, Fire Officer, Fire Inspector & Fire Instructor. Chief Hollins has an AS degree in Fire Science & an Advanced Degree in FD Management & Administration. He is also a founding member of the Sun Coast FOOLS and presently serves as a Trustee.
